OUR CHAT WITH ALL THE RAGE ABOUT THEIR UPCOMING EXHIBITION AND INSPIRATION
ALL THE RAGE (ATR) is a Perth (Boorloo) based art house. It was Recently founded by Shania as she felt as though there was a gap in the Perth Art scene and wants to explore art expression. Through challenging the perspective of the current local art culture, Shania has drawn inspiration from Tasmania’s flourishing local artists and wants to see something similar grow in Perth. She aims to host exhibitions and events that bring a modern approach to her local audio and visual artists.
ATRs first event OCULAR(01) on the 28th August will exhibit 11 artists ranging from paint and digital art to video, live graffiti and physical mediums.
We had a chat with Shania about ATRs upcoming exhibition, her inspirations and what’s on the horizon for ATR.
WANDERER: What is the vision for All The Rage (ATR) ?
SHANIA: At ATR, our vision is to encompass a limitless space, where we can create a range of not only unique events, but various platforms for artists to be able to truly express themselves. We aspire to design a place for everyone to connect, create, and support what truly constructs us as humans; art expression. We want to do it all and do it differently, bringing back all the fucking rage.
How did ATR come about?
I thought of creating ATR around a year ago, but was struggling to immerse myself in an innovative space. After finally feeling reconnected to the creative version of me, I was confident in what I wanted to accomplish. As someone who was exposed to the event industry at a young age, with my parents introducing me to my first music festival at the age of 10; I grew up searching for that experience over and over, and every time confirming that I wanted to be involved in this exact scene, but to bring something different.
How did you find and curate the artist line up for Ocular?
There are so many amazing creatives in Perth it was hard to choose only a select few. But honestly I had been watching artists instagram pages for months, and saving their posts, which had pieces I felt either connected to, or had a unique perspective. There wasn’t any kind of artist I wanted or didn’t want, it was just a waiting game for something to catch my eye. Once I had selected a couple artists, I began building Ocular(01) around them.
Do you have any exhibitions/spaces that inspired Ocular and ATR in general?
The Perth event industry is such a 'common' market, that it forced me to come up with my own references and inspiration in how I wanted ATR presented. Although, having the opportunity to experience the art scene in Tasmania within the last couple months, I became and still am, very inspired by Dark Mofo Festival, and the Mona Museum.
What would you like to see change in Perths Art & Event scene
Perths Art scene is making a comeback, which is exciting to not only watch but be apart of that transition. We have some of the most talented artists creating here, and it's only a matter of time before our Art scene reaches an audience broader than WA. As for the event scene, Perth seems to be stuck in a creative rut. Right now, the event industry is so heavily saturated, that I believe we’re losing the focus on what truly matters most; art expression. We need to bring the lost focus back onto the artists, and establish a way of differentiating ourselves from the rest.
After Ocular what’s next for ATR anymore events planned?
What's next for ATR I find is a difficult question to answer, purely because ATR provides such a limitless space on what we could potentially produce, so there’s truly no restriction on what could be next for us. We do have some fun ideas curating, but all I can say is that I think our next project could possibly be involved in the music scene.
How can people that aren’t from Perth support or see what you guys are doing?
Once we are furthered established as a business, we’ll definitely have other ways of interacting with us, but for now the best way to support us would be via following our social media platforms as well as the artists involved. It gives us as a business and the artists, a chance to be seen and heard outside of Perth.
