Somehow, It's been nearly a year since we did our last round of ‘A Perfectly Sound Scenario’, a segment where we ask musicians about their favourite albums and the perfect times to listen to them. To celebrate its return, we've asked Northern Beaches individual composer and producer Andre de Ruyter AKA Brite Boy, to share with us his five favourite albums just in time for the release of his debut EP titled Brite Boy. Andre's sound is one of alternative rock touching on folk, surf rock and indie-pop. His inspiration comes from well-known artists like Tame Impala and Jimi Hendrix who we all know and love, as well as few other, lesser known, but equally as exceptional artists like Alex G. With sounds like theirs driving his creativity, it's a no brainer why his recent EP release feels like an instant classic. So without further ado, let's dive into the world of Brite Boy!

In Rainbows - RADIOHEAD

Length: 42:39

Label: Self-released, Xurbia Xendless

Producer: Nigel Godrich

Release Date: 10 October 2017

Scenario - On the record player just cruising in my room drawing or relaxing having a brain cleanse.
Why? The whole album is about chasing something that’s not really there “in a rainbow” which allows me self reflect on where I’m at emotionally. Tom York’s vocals are also outstanding throughout Radiohead’s albums but the way this record blends together really makes me contemplate.

Innerspeaker - TAME IMPALA

Length: 53:15

Label: Modular

Released: 21 May 2010

Producer: Kevin Parker

Scenario - For a coastal trip or driving on the way for a surf

Why? Kevin’s psychedelic approach to this album is outstanding, being the first tame album I listened to I really bond well with the album as a whole. Every song is a journey which I find I relate to really well when I’m driving!

Electric Lady - JIMI HENDRIX

Length: 73:56

Label: Reprise

Producer: Jimi Hendrix

Released: 16 October 1968

Scenario - Good sex

Why? The album is incredibly psychedelic. Definitely, a go-to favourite of mine when sharing passionate moments. The whole album is well put together, and Jimi’s guitar playing steers me into completely different directions [than usual]; he is an insane guitarist.

Beach Music - ALEX G

Length: 37:04

Label: Domino

Released: 9 October 2015

Producer: Alex Giannascoli

Scenario - During the summertime on acid “good-mood music”

Why? - Beach music is the first album I heard from Alex and every song is heavily doused in acoustic and electric guitar which I can not get enough of. Not so much a psychedelic album for me however all the songs are very upbeat and have many layers of sound making the album great for a trip. Not the most popular musician but in my eyes every track in this record pumps.

Either/Or - ELLIOT SMITH

Length: 36:52

Label: Kill Rock Stars

Released: February 25, 1997

Producer: Elliot Smith, Tom Rothrock & Rob Schnapf

Scenario - Break up or losing someone/relationships or friendships.

Why? Great album to listen to, Elliot smith is a very emotional dude and has some great lyrics within his songs that are quite metaphorical. Definitely listen to this when the times are a little rough and when you want to feel your feelings.
