YEAH YEAH YEAHS SPLENDOUR SIDE SHOW

A few weeks back we made the trip back up the M1 and found ourselves standing on the floor of The Hordern Pavillion once again to catch another insane Splendour Sideshow! This time catching the iconic and nostalgic 2000’s indie pop group Yeah Yeah Yeahs also bringing along a current favourite band of mine, Automatic to support the ever cool LA post-punk trio who were so tight, fun, and I wish I caught their headline at The Lansdowne as well :(

Yeah Yeah Yeahs opened with the first track off their latest album release “Spitting On The Edge of the World '' a slow and stunning start, giving us a glimpse into the sheer talent of front woman Karen O’s incredible voice as well as the development in their career. The group haven’t been back to Australia in a decade to which Karen O, continually thanked the crowd for being there and being patient for their return. The group performed the all time favourite hit Heads Will Roll towards the end of their set, having everyone moving in the crowd as well as revealing Karen O’s renowned moves, like spitting her drink, attempting to swallow her mic and towards the end throwing it around the stage, coming pretty close to some of the bands equipment. It was a lively and entertaining performance finishing up with projections of the trio from their debut album Fever To Tell, released 20 years ago.

The stage presence, talent and history combined from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs performance was the best I had seen in a long time, for Karen O to still be performing with this much energy and no traces of slowing down at age 44 is a huge inspiration.
