A Stroll through Solemn Suburbia
Hi hello! Here is a little poem I wrote. The words below have been inspired by the many long walks through the streets of Sydney that I’ve been wasting all my time on.
I stray North for some time
in the direction of sun
carried forth by bare blistered soles
grazed gently
on that dry dry grey
worn early
by tiptoes of dawn
brooding gum tree
swollen trunk
arms reaching to
in yawn
listen
to their soft sunny clatter
bustled by a luke warm breeze
stretching the splay of light
broken black beneath
my feet
the day drives by no notice
of speed cameras
new
up the way
no coppers command shall halt
2 3
4 o’clock rock
dinner drops in unannounced
dusk waves goodbye
with it’s many pink fingers
herding the heavy white sheep
winking sinking
slyly
reeling in a days dark warmth
heat, hook line, sinker
still I stray
South for a while
in circles
beyond planes of you
of me
beyond guilt of trust
of us
silently
i’ll morph beneath
the tall of neatly stood street signs
taking themselves too seriously
pointing to parked in drive ways
where
leering in door ways await
devilled sausages
home brand
no thanks
silently
i’ll stumble through
the heavy thrum
of DV at the dog park
slipping over the sullen deluge
bought to you
by Winters whisper
most rain Sydney’s seen since
when?
gutters dribble
drain pipes snore
snails galore
devoured by solemn suburbia
willingly gobbled up
words by Matilda Reid
