POND AT METRO THEATRE
I’m sure most of you reading have already discovered the psych wonder that is POND. Having followed them for a while now ourselves, we’ve made it to several shows throughout the years. Their recent headline show at Sydney’s Metro Theatre, part of their first tour in quite some time, was rather special to be a part of. We got to witness the ultimate frontman, Nick Allbrook, taking centre stage… most of the time. Unless he had an instrument strapped to his front, it was pretty hard to keep your eye on him, constantly jumping around, dropping to the floor or running off into the crowd. It seems as though this is something he is very well meant to be doing.
The crowd was somehow equally as energised as Nick, with people on eachothers shoulders, singing back each song word for word. Some people in the crowd even had the chance to take over a song as Nick had blown his voice a little, not that anyone could notice. The night started off with the band playing songs from their latest album release, 9, then slowly, they made their way through their discography into the earlier, heavier, space jams. All the crowd favourites were sprinkled in between, of course.
The lights, the crowd and the music, were something quite nostalgic to be a part of, and it seemed to be for POND as well. Nick mentioned on the night how a lot of their songs hadn’t been played to an audience for years. It was an amazing thing to be a part of watching POND perform and be so tight in every single song was just amazing and we wish it didn’t end as quickly as it felt.
But before all of this, a couple of weeks before the tour, we had the privilege of chatting to Nick Allbrook himself. For our sixth print issue of Wanderer Magazine, BITTER SWEET, we discussed the creation of the band's newest album, 9, and what they’ve gotten up to over the past two years. The bitter and the sweet.
